In the News: New Facility For the Scottsboro Boys and Girls Club

new facility for the Scottsboro Boys and Girls Club

A new facility for the Scottsboro Boys and Girls Club, also called the Ben Sanford Boys and Girls Club, will soon be a reality thanks to the city’s generous donation!

About the facility

The city council recently approved the motion to donate property on North Houston Street to the Boys and Girls Club. The Scottsboro club currently has a building located at 309 North Houston St.

In a recent report, the Ben Sanford Boys and Girls Club director said the club currently serves more than 50 children a day. The new facility for the Scottsboro Boys and Girls Club will help the club expand their footprint and serve more area youths.

This means more STEM and choir events and competitions, for example. Plus, the proposed spacious building will give the kids an extra space to go and play on rainy days—something that is much needed!

Along with the new 2,400-sqaure-foot multipurpose building will come additional property upgrades. For instance, plans have been announced to resurface the basketball court as well as update the playground equipment at the original facility.

Currently, funds for the new facility for the Scottsboro Boys and Girls Club are being raised. If you would like to contribute, please send in a check or money order to the Boys & Girls Club of North-Alabama-Ben Sanford, 309 North Houston St., Scottsboro, AL 35768.

As of now, the organization hopes to have the new facility up and running by November.
